Conviasa suspends operations to perform audits

Venezuela’s state airline Conviasa suspends its operations for two weeks to perform safety audits, following a recent fatal accident.

In a statment the airline said the suspension of activities will begin at 0:00 pm on Friday, September 17, 2010 and will run until 0:00 pm on October 1, 2010, in order to conduct a comprehensive technical audit and evaluate the protocols and procedures in use.

The decision was made following the fatal accident involving an ATR-42 turboprop plane on September 13. The airplane crashed in final approach to Puerto Ordaz Airport (PZO), Venezuela, killing 17.
